Golden Retriever Pandora Style Bead

One hand-sculpted Golden Retriever European (Pandora style) dog bead. The Golden Retriever is done in a very light gold and darker golden colors. The back of the bead is done in a light golden shimmery color edged in a dark golden color. There is a tiny paw print on the back of the bead. The bead is varnish sealed for protection and has silver metal core insert.

Size is approximate:
13mm (1/2") side by side
20mm (3/4") nose to back of head
The bead sits on a dime in last photo for size reference.

The hole is 5mm wide.

Saying Goodbye to Edie

Edie was my sister's Golden Retriever. She was 14 years old and she passed away quietly yesterday, Sunday 10.10.10 at home with all of us around her. She was much loved and will be missed terribly. She is now with her buddy, my pup Lena, who passed away not even four months ago. Here they are together in life and I know they are together again in heaven! Love you two!

Spuddy's Hungry

When I walked into my sister's house, Spud was waiting there with a paper plate in his mouth. I think he was trying to tell me something -- and of course Payton was right there jealous that Spud was getting all the attention.

Golden Retriever Polymer Clay Dog Bead

One Golden Retriever bead hand-sculpted from polymer clay, detailed in acrylic paints and varnish sealed.

Size is approximate:
5/8" vertical (top to bottom)
1-1/4" horizontal (ear to ear)
3/4" horizontal (nose to back of head)

The bead is pierced vertically from top of head to bottom.

Spud as a Puppy

My sister's dog Spud and my nephew. Isn't that just the cutest photo? My other nephew had me dig up all these old photos when Spud was a puppy and this is one that I found that I couldn't resist. My nephews love their Spuddy!

Spud the Golden Retriever with his Football

Spud, my sister's Golden Retriever, loves this football. He's always carrying it around with him and as you can see he has ripped it almost to shreds. It's his Chicago Bears football, he's a big fan, he loves to cheer when the Bears are doing good, it's too funny if we all start to cheer, he starts jumping around whining -- he loves to watch the game except this year he has been a bit disappointed in the team!!

All the Santa Dogs

Here are all the dogs with the Santa hat on; my Lena and my sister's dogs, Edie, Spud and Peyton. The two old girls Lena and Edie were the best when it came to keeping the hat on. They both posed very nicely, but those two younguns were hard especially Spud, as you can see he's on the sofa laying down, that was the only way I could get a picture of him. I had to hold his paws so he wouldn't try to rip it off. I put the photos in order of their age with the two old gals first. The last photo is Edie's final photo for the day!

A Gift for My Sis

So tomorrow is my sister's birthday and she's had a rough year so I thought I'd so something really special for her. I made her a charm bracelet that features all of her six children, three of the human kind and three furry ones. I made three dog beads for each of her dogs and since I'm not very good at making humans out of polymer clay I only did one bead of her son in polymer clay because he's easily identifiable, for the other sons I did something different -- and I figure it is a charm bracelet so the more varying types of charms the better. Here's the bracelet with a short explanation:

Close up, I'll explain the main charms I made. The first charm from the left depicts her son, he was easy to do in polymer clay because he always has his hair pushed forward and in his eyes -- this must be something new, I'm not sure if it's only around our neighborhood or not, but it seems to be the hairstyle for the boys. The second one I made is her dog Edie, she's her oldest dog, a wonderful Golden Retriever. The third is a heart with her son's name on it, Mike. The fourth is her other dog, Payton named after Walter Payton (actually her son brought this dog home) which was a surprise to her, but she fell in love and kept him (kids). He is a Sheltie/Akita mix or at least that's what they told him he was :)

The next charm is a small photo frame with her son's picture. The next one is a G, which is her first initial and the last one I made was of her other Golden Retriever, Spud, the wonder dog! I added a couple of other clay hearts and various things. I hope she loves it. And BTW she never reads my blog, I don't even think she'd know how to find it if she wanted to, so I don't have to worry about ruining the surprise. Have a nice weekend everyone.

Spudders the Golden Retriever

So this is Spud, Spuddy, the Spudmeister, Spudders, he has many names. This is my sister's dog, the one my nephews are always saying is way cuter than my Lena. Okay, okay, so he's pretty darn cute and he can really work you for a piece of pizza -- but he lays down funny, look at his legs. In our family we call this the bear rug, but I've also heard it called frog legs, do you have a dog that lays like this and what do you call it?

1) Tell us your name, how many dogs you have, the name of your dog and how old your dog is? My name is Lesley. I have one dog Bailey, who will be 9 on May 1st.

2) What breed of dog do you have? Golden Retriever

3) How long have you had your dog/s and how did they come to be your dog? Since he was 6 weeks old. After my first golden retriever died at age 14 from cancer, I knew I wanted another Golden, and found Bailey at a breeder in a nearby town. He has hair the same color as mine, and was very verbal, and still is – he talks all the time!

4) Do you find that you've come to favor a certain breed of dog and if so, what are their unique characteristics that you've found to be so wonderful? I love all dogs, and grew up having one or more dogs. I love Goldens the best, though – they are smart, and cuddly, and lovey, and gorgeous!

6) Are there any other pets in the home other than dogs? Not on purpose.

7) What kind of art do you create? Jewelry – beaded, bead woven, wire-wrapped, and fused glass.

8) Do you create or make anything other type of art/craft? I crochet afghans and I cross-stitch wall hangings and blankets.

9) If you sell your artwork, where can we find your pieces for sale? I sell at a couple of boutiques in my local area and also my Etsy Shop, Sweet Freedom Designs and my website Sweet Freedom Designs.
